5 Minute Healthy Breakfast Banana Split

Enjoy dessert for breakfast with this Healthy Breakfast Banana Split! Topped with greek yogurt, almond butter, and fresh raspberries, it's a sweet way to start your morning but it can be a healthy dessert option too.

I used to be team sweet for breakfast, then I was team savory when I was pregnant with my first baby, and now I just enjoy everything!

Some of my favorite breakfast recipes are my Apple Pecan French Toast Casserole, this single serving peanut butter banana waffle, and my 3 Ingredient Pumpkin Spice Pancakes.

Oh, and don't forget these breakfast burritos that make the perfect meal prep breakfast too!

I also love creating new and healthier versions of breakfast flavors you know and love. But what about making desserts into breakfasts? Now THAT'S a fun challenge! I decided my first attempt should be a banana split.

Ok I'm going to be totally honest - I've never actually had a banana split before! Like, I know what it is, and I know what's in it, but I've never had it.

I guess that's weird because everyone calls me an ice cream connoisseur?

Well, anyway, it doesn't matter that I've never had a banana split because today's recipe is even better! This Breakfast Banana Split is a lighter version of the classic dessert with ingredients you probably already have on hand!

Ingredients for a breakfast banana split

I love this breakfast recipe because it only needs five main ingredients and I bet you have most of them on hand already! For this Breakfast Banana Split you'll need:

  • Ripe banana: the base for this amazing recipe. Make sure it's ripe! You'll also be slicing it lengthwise down the middle so it's nice and thin.
  • Vanilla greek yogurt: I always always always recommend this brand of greek yogurt because there's no preservatives, sugar, or fat. It's incredibly smooth and delicious. It's the perfect "ice cream" for this breakfast banana split!
  • Natural almond butter: a healthy substitute to chocolate syrup packed with antioxidants, magnesium, heart-healthy fats, and plant-based protein. "Natural" is key because we want it to be drippy and smooth without any extra ingredients.
  • Fresh raspberries: not cherries, I know, but I don't like cherries and raspberries add a nice sour to balance all the sweet.
  • Whipped cream: I always have a can of this whipped cream in my fridge for a quick topping. I love this brand because it is made with almond milk and doesn't have any high fructose corn syrup! You can use whatever you like though.
  • Chocolate sprinkles: because this IS dessert for breakfast, right? If you really want to take this breakfast to the next level, you could even do rainbow sprinkles!

Customize your banana split!

I chose to use nonfat vanilla greek yogurt, but I've also had it with mixed berry greek yogurt, chocolate greek yogurt, and ice cream!

You could also make this healthy breakfast dairy-free by using your favorite non-dairy yogurt. The whipped cream I use is already dairy-free!

Not a fan of raspberries? Try diced strawberries, blueberries, or even the classic cherries! You could even do a mix of all of those! Any fruit will work here.

I prefer almond butter for this breakfast banana split because it's more mild in flavor than peanut butter (anything with peanut butter just tastes like peanut butter) but it's more rich and complimentary than cashew butter or sunflower butter.

However, if you don't love or can't have almond butter, feel free to use any nut butter you like!

Want to turn this breakfast banana split into a dessert again? Just swap the greek yogurt for some Halo Top Ice Cream (not sponsored) to enjoy a protein packed, low sugar ice cream option!
